The consolidation of two local universities took another step forward Wednesday with the list of possible names being narrowed down to three.
The branding committee for the "new U"--the consolidation of Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University--released six possible names three weeks ago.
Those names were: Augusta University, Bartram University, George Walton University, Georgia National University, Georgia Regents University and University of Augusta.
On Wednesday, the Consolidation Working Group added a new name and narrowed the previous list of six names down to two additional names.
They are: Georgia Arts and Sciences University, Georgia Regents University and University of Augusta.
The Board of Regents will make the final decision on August 8, and could pick one of these names or an entirely new name.
