Crews fight roof fire at Augusta meat processing plant

Posted: Updated:
AUGUSTA, Ga. -  Richmond County fire crews are still on the scene of a fire at FPL Foods - that's located at the 13-hundred block of New Savannah Road.

The fire was called in around 1:30 Thursday morning.   No injuries have been reported.

A spokesperson for FPL Foods tell us that it was a roof fire, and since its made out of rubber, it's making it more difficult to put out.

Production workers are not to report to work at this time.

If anyone is not sure if they need to report, they need to call the call-in line. A meeting is scheduled for 8am when more information will become available.

This is the company's headquarters - it's one of the largest privately owned processors of fresh beef products.

All vehicles are being turned away at this time since there are highly flammable chemicals inside of the building.
